So I was tagged by Sarah Cohen to make a Passion Quilt Meme. The task? Take/make a photo and caption it with a statement that you feel passionate for children, students, libraries…
Sometimes I see creativity being squashed before it has a chance to grow. I admit that it’s definitely important to make sure the right people have input and you do your homework. Too often I think things are over analyzed. Some things just can’t wait! Technology, medical knowledge, cottage cheese…what do these have in common? They all have expiration dates. While this very fact may stall many librarians (since it can be daunting to know that whatever you do, the masses will move to a new shiny tool) it means to me that we need to get out there and get busy. (And it also means to me that we’ll always be needed!)
While I believe everyone needs to understand the value of sticking with something, it’s also important to get your hands dirty (see Do It Now for inspiration). Now is the keyword. Try it, see if you like it, see if it works for you, change it, drop it, learn from it, move on…it’s okay! Libraries and librarians (and thus patrons) could benefit from this idea as well. Who hasn’t talked an idea to death, had one too many a meeting, or just felt like you couldn’t implement something new @ your POW because not everyone had enough time to tear it down and rebuild it? Stick with an idea when it’s really working for (no..not for you) your patons. Try things on the side. Watch the horizon and be aware of what’s out there, what’s coming. So you can jump in when you want or are ready.
Okay, over analyzing over…
I wonder where ideas go to die a slow death? Wish I could find a collection of them, like a thrift store of “gently used” ideas. Kinda like the gym equipment I always see for sale that’s never been used. Ha!
So I’m tagging:
Jim Tuttle
Lauren Pressley
Lenore Ramm
Joan Petit
Toby Greenwalt
Have fun!

Yay! I’ve posted mine on systems thinking, which I believe to be very important (though it shouldn’t cause paralysis by analysis!!
Looking forward to your blogging and I’ve added you to my reader!
