Yesterday I attended the CE course Teaching Clinical Skills to Medical Librarians. I found the information very valuable because as many people in the class put it, when we are often in a situation where acronyms, lab values, etc get thrown around and we get thrown off track.
I’ve taken a Medical Terminology class and this class was a wonderful addition to my knowledge base. Rachel started us off by giving us lots of resources to learn pronunciation, abbreviations, acronyms, dictionaries, etc. I’ll try to pull those out of my notes and off their slides later. The rest of the class was spent looking at drugs, vital signs, basic metabolic profile, complete blood count, and urine analysis. I finally learned more about those charts the docs write on the boards and discuss! Just a handy way to visually look at the BMP and urine analysis.
The bad thing about the class is that there wasn’t quite enough time for everything. Story of our life huh? It could definitely be a full-day class! And unfortunately, as I was telling Rachel and Julie, there just isn’t a way to go home and play with this kind of data. So I have lots of numbers rattling around in my head and my notes. Actually that will give me the confidence I need!

Awww, sorry Rachel! I should have taken more so I could choose. I decided to put up the one I had! It’s an action shot of you being informative!
No problem – I pretty much assume I’m always making some kind of crazy face or gesture in these classes!
