I’m Feeling Lucky grew out of a discussion with my husband (who’s also a librarian). We were talking about the services and databases offered by libraries. My husband laughingly commented on the usefulness of Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. That option has value!! Sometimes people just don’t want to go through the work of looking through a library’s list of helpful links (even if all the links rock). One pretty good link will suffice.
Sometimes life demands an I’m Feeling Lucky button, sometimes it demands the skill and professional techniques of a librarian, and sometimes it demands something that may not exist yet. It’s our role as information professionals to determine these different needs and work to fulfill them. Sometimes with technology and sometimes not…Technology is just another tool in our toolbox, albeit a very powerful tool!
What? More about me? Gosh, I’m flattered!
I’m an Information and Education Services Librarian at the Duke University Medical Center Library. I’ve worked in public and regular academic libraries in a variety of roles. I’m orginally from central Illinois. My husband and I live in Durham, NC with our three cats. I am interesting in investigating new technologies, instructional design, and trends in librarianship. I enjoy yoga, reading, bike rides, good vegan food, kayaking, and hand drumming. And I have to admit….I’m Feeling Lucky!
